چکیده

Background and Aim: Avian viral diseases usually cause high economic losses because of morbidity mortality poor growth. The rearing chickens in backyards could have an important role the spread certain diseases, particularly those origin. Infected birds might be prone to many infections for several reasons, including a lack vaccination programs, mixing different bird species same location, close interactions these with wild migratory carrying various pathogens. This study aimed conduct serological surveillance avian encephalomyelitis virus (AEV) some backyard eastern region Saudi Arabia. Materials Methods: Serum samples (n = 368) were collected from domestic reared 10 Eastern Province None vaccinated against virus. In addition, 78 serum free-ranging belonging Columbidae, such as pigeons doves, common areas near backyards. We tested sera specific antibodies AEV. Results: Our results revealed seroconversion AEV among examined (14.6%). doves displayed Conclusion: Seroconversion non-vaccinated was suggestive recent natural infection by this Further studies large number are required molecularly characterize circulating strains area. Keywords: antibody, virus, backyard, chicken, enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay, seroprevalence, prevalence, birds.

Risk for Infection with Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza Virus (H5N1) in Backyard Chickens, Bangladesh

To evaluate risk factors for infection with highly pathogenic avian influenza A virus (H5N1) in backyard chickens in Bangladesh, we conducted a matched case-control study. We enrolled 25 case farms (cases March-November 2007) and 75 control farms (June-November 2007). We used a questionnaire to collect farm data, which were analyzed by matched-pair analysis and multivariate conditional logistic...

Seroprevalence Survey of H9N2 Avian Influenza Virus in Backyard Chickens around the Caspian Sea in Iran

Since 1998, an epidemic of avian influenza occurred in the Iranian poultry industry. The identified agent presented low pathogenicity, and was subtyped as an H 9 N 2 avian influenza virus. Backyard chickens can play an important role in the epidemiology of H 9 N 2 avian influenza virus infection. Close contact of backyard chickens with migratory birds, especially with aquatic birds, as well as ...

Immunity Against Avian Influenza Viruspanax Ginseng Polysaccharide (GPS) Can Improve Immunity Against H9N2 Avian Influenza Virus in Chickens

The humoral immunization potential of panax ginseng polysaccharide (GPS) against H9N2 avian influenza virus (H9N2 AIV) in chickens was investigated. The effects of GPS treatment before and during H9N2 AIV infection were determined in chicken embryo fibroblast (CEF) by MTT (3(4, 5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2, 3-diphenyl tetrazolium bromide) assays and quantitative RT-PCR analysis of MHC and cytokine...
